Iberital has developed a coffee machine with a new design based on the introduction of lead-free materials, energy efficiency and Internet connectivity. The company received an SME Instrument grant in 2016 to design an ecological espresso machine that now won the Green Good Design Award 2018 from the European Center for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum.
GOOD DESIGN ™ was founded by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. to promote and encourage greater public understanding and acceptance for Modern Design. In 2018, seven decades later, this new green edition of GOOD DESIGN ™ identifies and emphasizes the world's most important examples of sustainable design and develops a public awareness program for the general public about which global companies are doing the best job in terms of Ecological and sustainable design for our global environments.
Iberital is a family SME. Its founder Blai Farré, passionate about metallurgy and machining parts, including coffee machines. His hobby quickly became work for companies and restaurateurs, and he soon began to manufacture parts for the coffee makers themselves. He made his own molds using foundry processes and successfully sold his own parts and spares. 40 years, a factory and exports in 90 countries later, Iberital wanted to expand the production of its sustainable coffee makers. It was then that the company successfully applied for the SME Instrument and obtained 1.6 million in funds.
